Lake George Youth Commission Basketball Program
The Lake George Youth Commission basketball program is a developmental program designed to teach basic skills and rules of the game in a fun, healthy environment.
The LGYC supports NBA/USA guidelines & rules that help promote the health & well-being of each young athlete.
The LGYC basketball program is a Lake George town program.
It is not associated with the Lake George Elementary School.
Registration:
- $50/player
- K-2 players will receive a t-shirt.
- Grades 3-6 will receive a uniform, which must be returned at the end of the season.
- Registration fees are used to off-set the cost of insurance, shirts, uniforms,etc..
Games/Practices:
- Due to the limited availability of gyms, the LGYC must schedule games and practices during days/times the gyms are not being utilized by the LGHS sports program.
- The LGYC anticipates beginning practices after November 11th.
- Games are currently being scheduled with other towns . Dates TBA
- Gym Floors: For players' safety & to protect gym floors players are asked to wear separate shoes into the school buildings not their basketball sneakers!
- Pre-K - 2nd grade will practice on Saturdays at the Lake George Elementary School. *Schedules are be subject to change.
- Grades 3rd - 6th will practice 1 or 2 nights during the week at the Lake George Elementary School or Lake George High School. *Schedules are be subject to change.
- Home Games will most likely be held on Saturdays.
Practices are for coaches and players only.
Cancellations:
- In the event of inclement weather or other circumstances, cancellations are made at the discretion of the LG Youth Sports Director.
- If school is closed for the day or has an early dismissal due to inclement weather or other emergency, practices are also cancelled.
- If school is closed on a Friday due to weather conditions Saturday practices are also cancelled.
Coaching:
- We are currently looking for volunteers to sign up to coach a team.
- Please only volunteer to coach if you can commit to the season.
- If interested in coaching, please click on "yes" when registering your player.
- Coaching Assignments:
- Kindergarten: 1 coach & up to 3 asst. coaches (this number could change depending on the number of registrants)
- 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th and 5th/6th: 1 coach & 1 asst. coach per team.
- All coaches & asst. coaches must be registered with myrec.
- Registering to coach or to assist in coaching does not guarantee a position as a coach or an assistant coach.
*LGYC Director has final say in all coaching positions.
- All coaches must be AED certified. It is now a state law that all sports fields have an AED on site. There will be an American Heart Association CPR/AED/First Aid course held on October 29th. I must provide a list of particiapnts by 10/20/25. Please contact me if you would like to sign up for this training.
- Please note: Registering to coach or to assist in coaching does not guarantee a position as a coach or an assistant coach. The LG Youth Sports Director has final say in all coaching positions.
Additional Notes:
Players should:
- plan to arrive on time and no earlier than 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
- bring a water bottle
- wear separate shoes to the gym
- enter through the side door of the Lake George Elementary School for games/practices.
- enter through the front door to the gym at the High School for games/practices.
Players may not stay after school to wait for practice.
